We were first-time breeders with Marta’s litter. We had a lot of help, support and guidance from Mandy Tordoff (who bred Marta) and the late Sue Wood (and Ian Tapp, owners of Brubeck, Marta’s father) without whom I doubt we would have ventured into breeding. After hundreds of hours of research into German lines and travelling to Germany to meet 6 dogs, we chose Gino Vom Vossbrink; a working gundog with a super temperament; good conformation, the requisite health scores, a nice type and a tried and tested sire whose offspring are achieving excellent health scores and working ability.

The 8 girls and 5 boys were born on New Year’s Eve in 2019 (2 of them in the very early hours of 2020). It was very hard work raising them, but they were such a delight and very entertaining, attracting visitors from far and wide. We had never been so popular! We also thank our friends who helped us with them and our lovely owners who continue to post pictures on our Facebook page and to keep us updated from time to time.

Giving them pet names was fun, we chose Exeter Chiefs players with a bit of licence for the girls’ names, hence: Henrietta (Henry Slade), Donna (Don Armand) Tomasina (Tom O’Flaherty); Biddy (Rob Baxter) Josie (Joe Simmonds) Samantha (Sam Simmonds) Nicola (Nic White), Mattilda (Matt Kvesic). The boys were easier; Jack (Nowell), Ollie (Devoto) Luke (Cowan-Dickie), Steeno (Gareth Steenson) and Harry (Williams).
