Mermilmar Large Münsterländers
About Us
Robin and I live in Somerset with our 3 Large Munsterlanders, Marta, Motson and Mimi and two Bantam hens. After previously owning 4 English Springer Spaniels we had our first Munster, Merlin, in 2008 closely followed by our second, Milo. They were both very much loved and are missed greatly as they are no longer with us. However, they gave us a deep, enduring love and a wide interest in the breed.
Marta, who joined us early 2017, was our first bitch. Motson followed shortly after in 2019. It was at this time we decided we would like to get back up to 3 Munsters. In parallel, Aly had become very interested in the breed ‘per se’ including health and breeding, gundog training, working and showing.
We decided our third dog would be home bred using Marta. She has a lovely temperament and excellent health scores as well as being very biddable and a ‘nice type’. This began a very extensive search for the right sire which took us to Germany. Our desire was not only to breed healthy puppies with good temperaments
but to also widen and hopefully to enhance the gene pool of UK Munsters.

Marta presented us with 13 healthy puppies on New Year’s Eve 2019, a truly memorable and somewhat surprising night – we had only been expecting 10! Marta was an exceptional mum, and Motson was a brilliant uncle. From this litter we kept Mimi. All three get on exceptionally well and they are a huge source of joy and pleasure (well, "most of the time" Robin might add!!).
Whilst we don’t breed regularly, we are hoping to breed again in 2025/2026 and we will likely venture to Europe for a sire. The pups are raised in our home surrounded by our other dogs, amid the clutter, sights and sounds of our daily life. We have a large, secure garden, a cider apple orchard and a 3.5 acre field.

Aside from our dogs, we are huge rugby union fans and throughout the season we can be found at Sandy Park, watching Exeter Chiefs. We are sports enthusiasts in general and enjoy gardening including growing our own veg. We also planted a cider apple orchard from which Robin makes cider.
